OSI Model and Functions

OSI - Open System Interconnection

Layer 7 Application
Layer 6 Presentation
Layer 5 Session
Layer 4 Transport
Layer 3 Network
Layer 2 Data link
Layer 1 Physical

TCP/IP - Transmission Control Protocol/User Datagram Protocol

Layer 4 Application
Layer 3 Transport
Layer 2 Internet
Layer 1 Network Access

Functions of OSI

Layer 7 Software Application, User Login Access Also Done Here
Layer 6 Data Format and Encryption Happens Here. Jpeg, HTML, .doc etc
Layer 5 Starts and Ends Session and Maintain The Session

Layer 4 Maintains Error Recovery,Flow Control, Port Facility
Layer 3 Provides Logical Address, Determines The Best Route For The Packet to Travel
Layer 2 Provides Physical Address, Provides Headers &Tailers for Error Free Delivery (FCS), Encapsulation etc.
Layer 1 Provides Physical Connection like emulation, cable, devices, repeaters etc.

OSI Device

Layer 7 - 5Firewall, Intuition Detect Devices
Layer 4
Layer 3 Router
Layer 2 NIC, Lan Switch, Wireless Access Point, Cable Modem, DSL Modem
Layer 1 Hub, Repeaters

OSI Concept

Instead of A Network Model, It is a Big Concept Breaked into Multiple Layers So That Experts In Each Layer Can able to concentrate on inventing technology without considering about other Layers.

OSI PDU (Protocol Data Unit)

Each Layer Data Encapsulation Denotes By Layer Number,Example L2PDU, L3PDU

TCP/IP Packet, Frame and Segments are Called TCP/IP PDU

TCP/IP Architecture

Network Fundamentals

TCP/IP Architecture

Application - Http, Pop3, SMTP

Transport - TCP, UDP

Internet - IP

Network Access - Frame Relay, Ethernet

TCP - Transmission Control Protocol
UDP - User Datagram Protocol

Same Layer Interaction - Same Layer on One Computer Communicates With Same Layer Of Another Computer.

Adjacent Layer Interaction - Lower Level Interacts With Higher Level

Encapsulation

Application -
Transport - TCP - Segment
Internet - IP - Packet
Network Access - Frame

GNS3 Simulate Software

GNS3 is an open source software that simulate complex networks while being as close as possible to the way real networks perform. All of this without having dedicated network hardware such as routers and switches.

GNS3 is an excellent alternative or complementary tool to real labs for network engineers, administrators and people studying for certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP and CCIE as well as Juniper JNCIA, JNCIS and JNCIE. Open source networking is supported too!

Cisco Packet Tracer

Packet Tracer is commonly used by Cisco Networking Academy students working towards Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. It is a Free Software From Cisco.

Due to functional limitations, it is intended by Cisco to be used only as a learning aid, not a replacement for Cisco routers and switches.

Most of the CCNA Labs and Learning Can Be Done Via Packet Tracer. You May Find the Latest Downloads From Internet.

You May Find Video Tutorials at You Tube to Learn How To Use The Tool. It is Simple and Easy.

This is an Information Page On CISCO. I Write it as a Path on Process Achieving CCIE Certifications and Intent To Continue To Share What I Learn Forward!

Description

This Page is Sharing of Information I Learn Working and Learning CISCO. Sometimes It is Nice to Keep Information Good To All; Keep As Records In This INet Platform.

Let Us Grow Learning New and Sharing Information.

General Information

I am Ronald Raymon. I am From India, Kerala. I am a Computer Professional and Went Through Multiple Streams of IT Technology and Finally Reached Here at CISCO Networking.

It is Interesting to Create New Systems and Learn New Things.
